Hello everyone! I feel very inspired and motivated today by the wood work of Gabriel Schama: https://www.gabrielschama.com/. Gabriel uses a laser cutter to cut intricate patterns into layers of wood, which he then painstakingly glues back together to form the beautiful art that you see in the photos (all copyrights belong to Gabriel Schama).
Laser cutting is in many ways similar to 3D printing, in that a model is designed virtually and the movement path of a toolhead is then calculated automatically. In laser cutting, however, the toolhead (a powerful laser) cuts away parts from a layer of material. In other words it is a form of subtractive manufacturing. In 3D printing, subsequent layers are fused together to form the final part. I.e. it is a form of additive manufacturing.
